Principal Message

Davis Pendergast

Welcome to Vae View Elementary.

This is my fourth year here at Vae View and I'm happy to say that I'm a proud Mustang!

In this time, we have gone from a  state Turnaround school to one of only 11 schools across the state of Utah with a Platinum STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Designation from the Utah State Board of Education. This designation is proof that our teachers do an amazing job providing one of the best educations in the state to our students, if not the nation. Our increased test scores and student growth are also proof of this.

During the past few years we have introduced 1:1 technology into all our classrooms. By having one digital device for each student, this enables learners to have increased opportunities for engagement in the classroom and in STEM subject areas.

Our computer lab prep time specialist teaches coding to all students, and we have a Makerspace and an InfiniD Lab where all students receive enrichment to their education. Exploration and imagination are a part of their learning. We have partnered with Brigham Young University and the District Teaching and Learning Department in deepening our pedagogy. Teachers are being trained in Comprehensive Mathematical Instruction. We can see how this student focused shift is making a difference in the students understanding. The school also offers MESA Club, Chess Club, and Robotics Club. Our teachers continue to provide students with access to the Arts by having a school play, choir, and fine arts prep time.

With so many wonderful things happening at the school, the eyes of the district and state have been on us. Like any athletic team that is performing at high levels (thanks to the great work of the entire team of students, faculty and staff), I was humbled and honored to be awarded the District and State Principal of the Year Award. I'm excited to represent Vae View Elementary, the Davis School District, and the great State of Utah in Washington D.C. this fall with the other state award recipients.

This upcoming school year will be one of our finest.
